Ingredients

1 2/3 oz Scotch whisky
3/4 oz Lemon juice
3/4 oz Orange juice
1/2 oz Sugar syrup 'rich' (2:1)
2 dash Orange bitters
3 drop Saline solution 4:1

How to make

Serve in a old-fashioned glass

Prepare

  1. 1 Select and pre-chill an OLD-FASHIONED GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of skewered half orange slice wheel and Luxardo Maraschino Cherry (sail).

  1. 3 SHAKE all ingredients with ice.
  2. 4 FINE STRAIN into ice-filled glass.

History

This Scotch sour is improved by the addition of orange juice.

This Scotch Stone Sour comes by way of a recipe found in the 1988 publication *Sardi's Bar Guide*, by Vincent Sardi Jr. & George Shea. SCOTCH STONE SOUR 1½ ounces Scotch whiskey 1 teaspoon superfine sugar ¾ ounce lemon juice, preferably freshly squeezed 1½ ounces orange juice, preferably freshly squeezed ½ slice orange or lemon for garnish 1 maraschino cherry for garnish To prepare, combine the listed ingredients with ice cubes in a cocktail shaker. Shake well. Strain the mixture into a cocktail glass. Alternatively, pour the entire contents, including the ice cubes, into an Old-Fashioned glass and serve on the rocks. Garnish the drink with a half-slice of orange or lemon and a maraschino cherry.
