This pre-Prohibition cocktail is initially documented in Albert Stevens Crockett's 1931 publication, Old Waldorf Bar Days. The recipe found there is: SAVANNAH (claret) Juice one-half Orange Drink of Gin White of one Egg Dash of Crème de Cacao Frappé The recipe presented here is an adaptation from the 1949 edition of Esquire's Handbook for Hosts. That recipe is: SAVANNAH Juice of one-half orange 1 jigger Gin White of egg Dash Crème de Cacao
