History
Herbal complexity is balanced by gin's cleansing botanicals.
The Sand Martin first appears in Harry Craddock's 1930 The Savoy Cocktail Book, and it is suggested that the name is a misspelling of the "San Martin" variation of the Martini, which is of Argentine origin. Stanley M. Jones's 1977 Jones' Complete Barguide includes recipes for both the San Martin and Craddock's "Sand Martin." The recipe from The Savoy Cocktail Book is as follows: SAND-MARTIN COCKTAIL. 1 Teaspoonful Green Chartreuse. ½ Italian Vermouth. ½ Dry Gin. Shake well and strain into cocktail glass. Jones's "SAND MARTIN" recipe is: Cocktail Glass Stir 1-1/4 oz gin 1 oz sweet vermouth 1/4 oz Green Chartreuse
