History

While originally served straight-up, this cocktail is better enjoyed over ice. It serves as kümmel's counterpart to the Stinger. Harry Craddock is quoted as saying: "Brandy gives you courage and Kümmel makes you cautious, thus giving you the perfect mixture of bravery and caution, with the bravery predominating."

Harry Craddock's 1930 book, The Savoy Cocktail Book, provided the basis for this drink. QUELLE VIE COCKTAIL. ⅓ Kummel. ⅔ Brandy. STIR well and strain into cocktail glass. As Craddock explains, "Brandy gives you courage and kummel makes you cautious, thus giving you the perfect mixture of bravery and caution, with the bravery predominating."
