1 2/3 oz Tsipouro
2/3 oz Navy rum (ideally circa 55% alc./vol.)
5/12 oz Vanilla sugar
3 dash Aromatic bitters

How to make

Serve in a old-fashioned glass

Prepare

  1. 1 Select and pre-chill an OLD-FASHIONED GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of orange zest twist.

Method

  1. 3 STIR all ingredients with ice.
  2. 4 STRAIN into ice-filled glass (preferably over a large cube or chunk of block ice).

Garnish

  1. 5 EXPRESS orange zest twist over the cocktail and use as garnish.

History

Navy rum features in this Old Fashioned-style tsipouro cocktail, with vanilla a brilliant touch.

Michalis Emmanouil created this drink at Degage Bar in Lamia, Greece. It was among ten winning recipes in the 2021 O/Purist Quest. Emmanouil reports inspiration from the Parthenon temple in Athens. He stated, "built as a temple in honour of goddess Athena, protector of the city as well. In the same way the O/Purist Tsipouro was created by ten successful people from the world of bartending."
