Ingredients

1 2/3 oz Gin
1/2 oz Triple sec
1 1/4 oz Orange juice
1/4 oz Sugar syrup 'rich' (2:1)
1/24 oz Orange flower water

How to make

Serve in a coupe glass

Prepare

  1. 1 Select and pre-chill a COUPE GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of orange zest twist.

  1. 3 SHAKE all ingredients with ice.
  2. 4 FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

Garnish

  1. 5 EXPRESS orange zest twist over the cocktail and use as garnish.

Fragrant zesty orange and gin flavours with subtle floral notes.

The Opal is believed to date from the 1920s and is featured in Harry Craddock's 1930 publication, The Savoy Cocktail Book. The recipe provided is: OPAL COCKTAIL. (Serves 6) 3 Glasses Gin. 2 Glasses Orange juice. 1 Glass of Cointreau. A little sugar. Add a little Orange-flower water. Shake and serve.
