Hugo R. Ensslin's 1917 Recipes for Mixed Drinks (2nd Edition) provided the basis for this drink, though it's possible it was also included in his 1916 first edition. OLD FASHIONED APPETIZER Served in an old fashioned glass, the ingredients are: Cube of Ice ½ jigger Rye or Bourbon ½ jigger Dubonnet 2 dashes Curacao 2 dashes Absinthe 1 slice Orange 1 slice Pineapple 1 piece Lemon Peel 1 dash Peychaud Bitters It is recommended to serve this cocktail with a small bar spoon in the glass.
