History

Cachaça, carrot, and tonic water create an interesting combo. Unusually tasty, though perhaps more health shop than speakeasy.

This drink is adapted from a 2015 creation named "Natural" by Jorge Balbontin of Barcelona, Spain. Carrots are rich in Vitamin A, supplied by beta carotene, and are beneficial for eye health, but they do not actually improve night vision, contrary to common belief. This popular misconception originated during World War II. In the 1940s, the Luftwaffe attacked the southeast of England under the cover of night. However, the Royal Air Force maintained an advantage in the dark skies due to newly developed radar technology. The secret Airborne Interception Radar (AI), first installed in RAF aircraft in 1939, enabled the detection of enemy bombers before they reached the English Channel. To prevent the Germans from developing similar technology and to explain the success of British pilots, the Ministry of Information propagated the myth that they possessed night vision due to their carrot consumption.
