History

This cocktail is adapted from a recipe created by Martin Cate at his Smuggler's Cove bar in San Francisco, California. The drink was conceived during a period when a local exotica band called "Ape" was performing at the bar. It was served in a Tiki mug shaped like a fez-wearing monkey's head. This mug was designed by the band's frontman, Allan "Crazy Al" Evans, as merchandise for his band and was manufactured by Tiki Farm in 2004.
