History
A classic Daiquiri using aged rum with a whisper of chocolate.
It is believed that Constantino (Constante) Ribalaigua Vert at Havana's Floridita bar created this cocktail. However, the Cuban book, Bartender's Sixth Sense, states that the Mulata was created in the 1940s by Jose Maria Vazquez. Originally, the cocktail was prepared with Bacardi Elixir, a liqueur made by steeping plums in rum. Since the 1970s, crème de cacao liqueur has been used as a replacement. Bacardi Elixir ceased production when Bacardi was compelled to leave Cuba. Nevertheless, approximately 60 bottles were produced in a small batch to commemorate the Bacardi Legacy Competition in April 2013.
