Ingredients

2 oz Gin
3/4 oz Rosso/sweet vermouth
1/24 oz Orange flower water
2 dash Absinthe
1 dash Aromatic bitters

How to make

Serve in a coupe glass

Prepare

  1. 1 Select and pre-chill a COUPE GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of orange zest twist.

  1. 3 SHAKE all ingredients with ice.
  2. 4 FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

Garnish

  1. 5 EXPRESS orange zest twist over the cocktail and use as garnish.

History

Aromatic and sweet (though dry) Martini with orange flower water, absinthe, and angostura.

This recipe is adapted from Harry Craddock's 1930 book, The Savoy Cocktail Book. MARTINI (SPECIAL) COCKTAIL. (Serves 6) 4 Glasses of Gin. 1½ Glasses Italian Vermouth. 1/3 Glass Orange-flower Water. Prior to shaking, add a dash of Absinthe and one or two dashes of Angostura Bitters. Discussions surrounding the Martini cocktail and its historical progression.
