History
A dry, refreshing calvados apéritif or digestif, served frappé.
Named after Guglielmo Giovanni Maria Marconi (1874 – 1937), an Italian electrical engineer and inventor recognized for developing a radio wave-based wireless telegraph system and credited as the inventor of radio. Recipe adapted from Albert Stevens Crockett's 1931 Old Waldorf Bar Days. Earlier in the book, under the heading "Big Events Spirituously Memorialized", Crockett states the Marconi Wireless "first sprang across the Bar of the Waldorf when the ancestor of the radio began to raise its ghostly voice". That may be so, but the Marconi Wireless is a variation on Jacques Straub's 1913 Marconi, served frappé with the addition of two dashes of orange bitters. MARCONI WIRELESS* Two dashes Orange Bitters One-third Italian Vermouth. Two-thirds Apple-jack Frappé.
