History

Sweet and sour with complex herbal notes and lime freshness.

Mamadeta is commonly enjoyed during the Santa Tecla Festival, which takes place every September in Tarragona, Spain. Chartreuse's connection to Tarragona originates from the liqueur's production at the city's Carthusian monastery until 1989, when manufacturing returned to their Monastery in Voiron, France. According to popular legend, this cocktail, or at least its name, was conceived at an ice cream parlor on Plaça del Re in Tarragona. During festivals, Mamadetas are distributed in plastic cocktail shaker-shaped flasks, known as "barrels," which participants hang around their necks. These were first introduced in 1998, and the designs printed on them are updated annually.
