History

A long, fruity drink for thirsty palates, reminiscent of a Pimm's Cup.

The Macka ("Le Macka") is famously the only cocktail, and indeed the only drink, served since 1928 at the Damour Colette bar in Lamballe-Armor, Brittany, France. Each customer is permitted only two. The bar allows only 20 guests, and entry is strictly for those with an advance reservation. The drink was created by the bar's founder, Hippolyte Lorand, and is named after Macau in China, where he had served during his military service. The recipe passed from the bar's first chef, Gaston Damour and his wife, Maria, to their son, Gaston Junior, and then to his widow, Colette, who has run the bar since 2010.
