History

A Scotch Daisy with apple brandy and egg white. Applejack is preferred over calvados.

This cocktail originates from Hugo Ensslin's 1917 book, Recipes for Mixed Drinks, 2nd Edition, and may have also been included in the 1916 first edition. The recipe is listed as the "LITTLEST REBEL COCKTAIL" and calls for the following ingredients: Juice 1 Lime, 1 jigger Apple Jack, ½ jigger Scotch Whiskey, ¼ jigger Grenadine, and the White of 1 Egg. The instructions specify to shake these ingredients well in a mixing glass with cracked ice, then strain and serve.
