History
Appreciation of this fine, delicate Orange Daiquiri is shared. However, the formulation has been tweaked as the original was somewhat rich and over citrusy.
David A. Embury, in his 1948 book The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks, writes of this cocktail, "As a grand finale to cocktails based on the Rum Sour, I give you one of my favorites which I have named after my favorite community." Embury resided in Larchmont, a village in Westchester County, New York, for many years. The recipe as written by Embury is: LARCHMONT - ½ part Sugar syrup, 2 parts Lime juice, 2 parts Grand Marnier, 6 parts White Cuban rum. Shake vigorously with crushed or cracked ice and strain into a chilled and frosted cocktail glass. A twist of orange peel may be dropped into each drink for decoration if desired.
