History
Jason Clapham, the discerning drinker who introduced this cocktail, remarks, "it's a Champs-Élysées crossed with Sidecar. What could go wrong?" For those wishing to reduce the 90ml (3oz) of alcohol in the above recipe to a Nick & Nora size, the following proportions can be used: 40ml (1⅓oz) Cognac 10 (⅓oz) Orange curaçao 10 (⅓oz) Green Chartreuse 10 (⅓oz) Lemon juice
This classic cocktail originally appeared in David A. Embury's 1948 book, The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks. It was brought to attention and rejuvenated by Jason E. Clapham of St. Edward's MCR at Oxford, England. The "KNIGHT" recipe calls for 1 part Cointreau & Chartreuse half & half, 2 parts Lemon Juice, and 8 parts Brandy. It is to be shaken with cracked ice.
