1 2/3 oz Rye whiskey 50% abv
1/4 oz Fernet liqueur
1/3 oz Sugar syrup 'rich' (2:1)
1/3 oz Chilled water

Serve in a coupe glass

  1. 1 Select and pre-chill a COUPE GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of orange and pineapple slices.
  3. 3 STIR all ingredients with ice.
  4. 4 FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

This recipe is adapted from Harry Craddock's 1930 The Savoy Cocktail Book. The "KING COLE COCKTAIL" is listed as: 1 Glass Rye or Canadian Club Whisky, 2 Dashes Syrup, 1 Dash Fernet Branca, 1 Lump of Ice. Instructions are to "Stir well and decorate with slices of orange and pineapple."
