History

The creation of this cocktail was driven by the goal to produce a distinctly British drink suitable for toasting sporting victories. Different whiskies are included to represent England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. London dry gin, British ale, and Drambuie are all British ingredients. Apples, with varieties like Cox, Granny Smith, and Kingston Black, are intrinsically British fruits. Strawberries, associated with events such as Wimbledon, serve as a fitting garnish. Drambuie contains Scotch whisky, which complements the other whiskies in the drink. Apple juice is a popular choice among bartenders for whiskey cocktails. The name is inspired by the Union Jack and the creator's satisfaction upon successfully combining the ingredients into a palatable cocktail.
