History
A potent, tart, invigorating cocktail with abundant fruit and a rum backbone.
The Hurricane cocktail gets its name from the lamp shape it resembles, and is served in a glass of the same design. While it is believed to have originated in 1939 at The Hurricane Bar in New York City, its fame was cemented at Pat O'Brien's in New Orleans. Earlier iterations of the Hurricane, as documented in some vintage cocktail books, featured cognac, absinthe, and vodka.
