History

A spirit-forward, bourbon-laced, late-night sipper with rich cherry; better served over ice than straight-up.

The Hunter cocktail is first documented in Jack A. Grohusko's 1908 publication, Jack's Manual: Recipes for Fancy Mixed Drinks and When and How to Serve. The initial preparation called for three parts rye whiskey to be stirred with ice and one part cherry brandy. Later, the famous Japanese bartender Hidetsugu Ueno San revived and reinterpreted the Hunter cocktail at his establishment, High Five, located in Ginza, Tokyo.
