History
Light, delicate gin-laced orange and pineapple with subtle, rich, herbal vermouth notes.
Hugo Ensslin's "Recipes for Mixed-Drinks," second edition, published in 1917, includes this recipe. For the Hugo Special: Place 6 slices of orange and 3 slices of pineapple into a mixing glass. Muddle them thoroughly. Add cracked ice, 1 jigger of Gin, and ½ jigger of Italian Vermouth. Shake the mixture vigorously. Strain the contents into a stem glass and serve.
