History
Faintly smoky Scotch flavours add spice to this warming cocktail, suitable for colds or the flu.
The earliest known mention of a toddy appeared in England in 1741. Charles Dickens referenced a "Whisky Toddy" in his 1836 work, The Pickwick Papers. Jerry Thomas' Bar-tenders Guide, published in 1862, includes a recipe for a Whiskey Toddy. The Whiskey Toddy recipe from the guide is: 1 teaspoon of sugar, ½ wine-glass of water, 1 do. Whiskey, and 1 small lump of ice, stirred together in a small bar glass.
