History
The combination of name, tennis tournament and garnish makes this otherwise ordinary Vodka Collins, sweetened with berry liqueur, special.
This recipe was adapted from a creation in 2006 by Nick Mautone. Mautone, a highly experienced bartender and hospitality consultant, was then contracted as a brand ambassador for Grey Goose Vodka. At that time, Grey Goose had just become the vodka sponsor for the United States Tennis Association's Open tennis tournament. Shortly after being assigned the task of developing the official cocktail for the event, Mautone observed that honeydew melon balls bore a resemblance to small tennis balls. With an appropriate garnish, his tall, fruity cocktail based on Grey Goose Vodka soon came into being. During the 2024 US Open, over 500,000 Honey Deuce cocktails were served in collectible plastic cups, accompanied by 1.5 million melon balls. That's a load of balls!
