History

The 1930 recipe from The Savoy Cocktail Book calls for dry gin, but this version uses old tom gin to provide the richness this cocktail demands.

Harrovian is the name given to former pupils of Harrow School, a prestigious institution in England. Notable alumni include Prime Ministers Stanley Baldwin, Sir Winston Churchill, and Sir Robert Peel. The Harrovian, a weekly publication, has been issued by the school since 1828. This cocktail, the Harrovian, is featured in Harry Craddock's 1930 compilation, The Savoy Cocktail Book. The recipe for the Harrovian Cocktail is presented as follows: Harrovian Cocktail. 1 Dash Angostura Bitters. 1 Teaspoon Orange Juice. 1 Dash Lemon Juice. 1 Glass Dry Gin. Shake well and strain into cocktail glass.
