History
Rich blackcurrant fruit balanced by dry vermouth and gin and kirschwasser. This cocktail is better shaken than stirred for crucial aeration and dilution. Enjoy while still foaming.
The Gasoline Cocktail is first documented in the "Cocktails Round Town" section written by Arthur Moss within Harry McElhone's 1927 book, Barflies and Cocktails. Mac plus Alister is the name given to the boulevardier who describes with automotive enthusiasm what he terms a "Gasoline Cocktail." Mac states: "Prime with a liberal dash of Kirsch. Mix with Cassis. Drive off with French vermouth. And brake with gin."
