History
Rum and sherry create perfect harmony.
The Frank Morgan cocktail was first documented in Crosby Gaige's 1944 publication, The Standard Cocktail Guide. It is named after the actor Frank Morgan, widely recognized for his role as the Wizard in the original The Wizard of Oz. Frank Morgan was the stage name for Francis Phillip Wuppermann, born in 1890. He was one of 11 children of George Wupperman, who began as a salesman for Angostura bitters and eventually became the sole agent for the brand across the USA, Canada, Mexico, and Cuba. The recipe is listed as: THE FRANK MORGAN 1/3 part Sherry Dash of Angostura Bitters 2/3 part Rum Stir well with cracked ice and strain into Cocktail glass.
