History

This whisky-laced, lightly spiced apple and lemon cocktail has an autumnal hue. Served over cubed or block ice, it's perfect for a winter's eve. Its incarnation served over crushed ice, as preferred by the creator, Jeffrey Morgenthaler, makes it the unofficial cocktail of USA Thanksgiving and the holiday period that follows.

This recipe is adapted from one created around 2012 by Jeffrey Morgenthaler of Portland, Oregon, USA. Morgenthaler was inspired by the combination of bourbon and apple found in a simple Stone Fence. Morgenthaler states on his website, "We serve this one on pebble ice with a garnish of fanned apple slices, but crushed ice works just as well, and plain old ice cubes are great, too."
