History

Spirit-forward rye whiskey, particularly a 50% ABV straight rye, offers spiced apricot fruitiness. If Boker's Bitters are unavailable, regular aromatic bitters can be used to moderate the apricot liqueur's intensity.

The Fairbanks cocktail made its debut in print in J. A. Grohusko's 1908 manual, "Jack's Manual," and reappeared in Jacques Straub's 1914 publication, "Drinks." Charles Warren Fairbanks (1852 - 1918) was an American politician. He was a senator from Indiana before his tenure as the 26th Vice President of the United States. As an advisor to President William McKinley, Fairbanks was part of a commission that resolved the Alaska boundary dispute. The city of Fairbanks, Alaska, and the Fairbanks North Star Borough are named in his honor, as are other places named Fairbanks in Minnesota, Oregon, and a township in Michigan.
