The cocktail's name, which literally translates to "And me, I'd tell you... Maud," is intended to mean "That's Maud for ya." It honors Maud Loty, a French actress known as "La Maud," who was a star in numerous successful vaudeville productions during the 1920s and 1930s. This drink is listed in Georges Gabriel Thenon's 1929 publication, Cocktails de Paris. The entry includes Maud Loty's signature and states, "Grand Prize of Honor at the Champonnal de Cocktail des Artistes de Paris, June 21, 1929.
