1 1/3 oz Blanco tequila
1/2 oz Fino sherry
1/2 oz Elderflower liqueur
1/4 oz Triple sec
1/12 oz Grenadine syrup

Serve in a nick & nora glass

  1. 1 Select and pre-chill a NICK & NORA GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of small mint leaf from the tip of a sprig..

Method

  1. 3 STIR first 4 ingredients with ice.
  2. 4 STRAIN into chilled glass.
  3. 5 POUR half-a-bar spoon of grenadine into centre of cocktail which should sink to form a suitably red Christmassy base.

  1. 6 Float small leaf from the tip of a mint sprig for garnish.

History

The name Elf On The Shelf is derived from its ingredients: Elderflower liqueur, Orange liqueur, Tequila, and Sherry. It is described as a drink for sharing amongst playful elves while they scheme. Those who approach the cocktail with delicacy can savor its deep, fruity red foundation. Conversely, those with a more mischievous inclination may stir or swirl their drink, transforming its character to be sweeter and pinker. Extremely playful elves might even add red crème liqueurs, such as cassis, framboise, or fraise, instead of non-alcoholic grenadine to their Elf On The Shelf cocktail. Such is their naughtiness!

This story began as a children's picture book in 2005 and has since become a nightly drama enacted by parents worldwide from Thanksgiving to Christmas Eve. The book The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition was written by Carol Aebersold and her daughter Chanda Bell, and illustrated by Coë Steinwart. Their Christmas-themed story centers on elves who report to Santa Claus about which children are naughty and which are nice in the lead-up to Christmas. Each night, parents devise an elf-like act of mischief and then position an elf at the scene for their children to discover in the morning. However, children are forbidden from touching the elf, as doing so will cause it to lose its magic.
