History
A bittersweet profile with refreshing pine and herbal notes from gin, carciofo, and fernet.
This cocktail is adapted from a recipe developed around 2009 by Toby Maloney at his establishment, The Violet Hour, in Chicago, USA. It is included in his 2022 book, The Bartender's Manifesto. The original preparation called for 45ml Campari, 30ml Dolin Blanc Vermouth de Chambery, 15ml Junipero (Navy-strength gin), 7.5ml Cynar, 7.5ml Fernet Branca, and a single dash each of Regan's Orange and Angostura Orange bitters. The drink derives its name from Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh. Toby is quoted as stating that Eeyore is "the most bitter character in literature," which he felt was fitting for a bittersweet cocktail.
