2 oz Bourbon whiskey
3/4 oz Cynar/carciofo amaro
1/3 oz Sugar syrup 'rich' (2:1)
4 drop Chocolate bitters

How to make

Serve in a old-fashioned glass

Prepare

  1. 1 Select and pre-chill an OLD-FASHIONED GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of lemon zest twist.

Method

  1. 3 STIR all ingredients with ice.
  2. 4 STRAIN into ice-filled glass (preferably over a large cube or chunk of block ice).

Garnish

  1. 5 EXPRESS lemon zest twist over the cocktail and use as garnish.

History

Originally served in a chilled old-fashioned glass without ice, but this cocktail is preferred with the dilution that comes with ice. Chocolate bitters are not essential as this drink has enough complexity without them.

This recipe was adapted in 2012 by Scott Diaz, who was the Beverage & Cafe Manager at Elliott's Oyster House & Seafood Café in Seattle, Washington.
