History

Gin and brandy combine harmoniously, forming the backbone of this spirit-forward cocktail, as befits its name. Chocolate bitters play a crucial role with rosso vermouth and amaro.

J. E. Clapham of Clapham Cocktails created this drink in late 2023 or early 2024. Clapham states it is "An attempt to create the mysterious drink that features in the cocktail-fuelled Wodehouse classic, 'The Story of William'." The book describes a man asking for advice after his love becomes engaged to another. The barman suggests, "Well,' he replied at length, 'I advance it, you understand, as a purely personal opinion, and I shall not be in the least offended if you decide not to act upon it; but my suggestion – for what it is worth – is that you try a Dynamite Dew Drop.'" Another patron disagreed, offering, "Much better give him a Dreamland Special." A third person chimed in with a different idea: "You can't beat an Undertaker's Joy."
