History
A five-to-one Dry Martini using a split gin base, enriched with bianco vermouth and fino sherry.
This drink takes inspiration from the "Martini Cocktail No. 2" found in the 1898 publication Cocktails... How To Make Them, which featured sherry. However, it incorporates the dry vermouth specified in the Marguerite cocktail. The dual gin base also stems from the amalgamation of these two original recipes. Marguerite Cocktail. Bitters Plymouth Gin French Vermouth Fill a mixing-glass halfway with crushed ice. Add three dashes of orange bitters, half a jigger of Plymouth gin, and half a jigger of French Vermouth. Stir, then strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with an olive at the bottom and serve. Martini Cocktail – No. 1. Bitters Gin Italian Vermouth Lemon peel Fill a mixing-glass halfway with crushed ice.
