Lime complements the aromatic spices found in Swedish punch.
A recipe for the Doctor Cocktail, made with Swedish punch and lime juice, first appeared in Hugo R. Ensslin's 1917 book, Recipes for Mixed Drinks (2nd Edition). It might have also appeared in the 1916 first edition. DOCTOR COCKTAIL 1 jigger Cederlund's Punch Juice 1 lime Shake well in a mixing glass with cracked ice, strain into cocktail glass and serve very cold. The Doctor cocktail, which includes Swedish punch and lime juice, is also featured in William James "Billy" Tarling's 1937 Café Royal Bar Book and The UKGB's Approved Cocktails, published in the same year, with his contribution to the latter. Doctor 2/3 Swedish Punch. 1/3 Lemon or fresh Lime Juice. Shake and strain into cocktail glass.
