History

Herbal botanicals provide bittersweet complexity.

This cocktail is adapted from a recipe found in William James "Billy" Tarling's 1937 Café Royal Cocktail Book. The book credits "F. G. Hunt" with its invention. The original recipe specifies Van Der Hum tangerine liqueur, whereas this version uses a mandarin liqueur. Furthermore, the original preparation involves shaking, not stirring. CRAZY CROSSING Invented by F. G. Hunt 1/2 Plymouth Gin (Coates). 1/4 Noilly Prat Vermouth. 1/4 Dubonnet. Dash Maraschino. Dash Van der Hum. Shake. Jason Clapham of Oxford, England brought this recipe to attention and suggested the use of Mandarine Napoléon.
