History

Dry and wonderfully aromatic with faint almond notes from fino sherry and subtle maraschino fruitiness. Delicious.

This cocktail's creation is linked to the Coronation of King Edward VII, who ascended to the throne on 22 January 1901, following the death of Queen Victoria. The King's Coronation was initially scheduled for 26 June 1902, but a medical emergency two days prior, an appendicitis operation, led to its postponement until 9 August 1902. The Coronation Cocktail first appeared in Charles S. Mahoney's 1905 publication, The Hoffman House Bartender's Guide. It was attributed to Joseph Rose of Murray Bros.' Café in Newark, New Jersey, USA. While the exact creation date is unspecified, the cocktail secured second place in the 1903 Police Gazette Bartenders' Contest. Coronation Cocktail.
