History

This cocktail, with its forward agave notes and bittersweet profile, is a pleasing digestivo or late-night sipper.

This drink is adapted from a recipe created around 2009 by Phil Ward at Mayahuel in Manhattan, New York City. The original recipe was a basic list of ingredients without specific volumes, and artistic license has been applied to it. "Cantinflas" was a deliberately meaningless stage name adopted and popularized by the Mexican comedian Mario Moreno. Moreno stated that he invented the name while performing in Mexico's travelling carpas (tent shows) to prevent his parents from discovering his involvement in show business, which they did not approve of. He starred in over 55 films, including his role as Passepartout in Around the World in 80 Days (1956).
