History

In its native Brazil, this drink is customarily served with cubed ice, most often the kind known as holly tubular machine ice. Yet, when the beverage made its way to the UK and gained popularity there, crushed ice was the prevailing trend. As a result, in the UK and other new markets for cachaça, crushed ice has established itself as the standard. The history of the Caipirinha and its other variations are detailed on the Caipirinha cocktail page.
