Ingredients

3 barspoon Orange marmalade
1 2/3 oz Gin
1/2 oz Orange Curaçao
1/2 oz Bianco/blanco vermouth
1/2 oz Lemon juice
1/3 oz Egg white (pasteurised)
3 drop Saline solution 4:1

How to make

Serve in a coupe glass

Prepare

  1. 1 Select and pre-chill a COUPE GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of orange zest twist.

Method

  1. 3 STIR 3 flat barspoons (or 1 heaped spoon) of marmalade with gin in base of shaker to dissolve the marmalade. (It helps to break down if you push the marmalade into the sides of the tin.)
  2. 4 Add other ingredients and SHAKE with ice.
  3. 5 FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

Garnish

  1. 6 EXPRESS orange zest twist over the cocktail and use as garnish.

History

Vermouth makes this Neo Martini a truer Martini than the standard. The name also honours Harry Craddock's Marmalade Cocktail, the recipe's inspiration. (An egg or egg white is traditional with an English breakfast.)

This drink is a variation on the Marmalade Cocktail, which appears in Harry Craddock's 1930 publication, The Savoy Cocktail Book. MARMALADE COCKTAIL. (Serves 6) Its bittersweet flavor makes this cocktail particularly fitting as a pre-lunch drink. Combine the following ingredients in a shaker: 2 Dessertspoonsful Orange Marmalade. The Juice of 1 big or 2 small Lemons. 4 Glasses Gin. Shake thoroughly and strain into glasses, expressing a piece of orange rind over each serving.
