History

With sweet coffee liqueur, six drops of vanilla bitters enhance balance and complexity. A good coffee liqueur and dry gin make this two-ingredient cocktail surprisingly tasty and simple.

The Brave Cow cocktail rose to prominence in the 1970s and 1980s, building on the popularity of the Black Russian cocktail of that era. The following recipe is an adaptation from John J. Poister's book, The New American Bartender's Guide. BRAVE COW 1½ oz. gin 1½ oz. Kahlua Lemon peel Pour gin and coffee liqueur into a chilled Old Fashioned glass with several ice cubes. Twist lemon peel over drink and drop into glass and stir.
