History
Lurid blue, easy-drinking and zesty citrusy. This cocktail, also known as The Swimming Pool, is about lounging beside one.
Two versions of this vibrant blue cocktail exist, both arguably superior to the 1980 film of the same name. Despite critical panning, the movie achieved the ninth-highest grossing status for 1980, possibly aided by a young Brooke Shields and a suggestive plot set on a tropical island. Returning to the drink, a blended iteration was created either in the 1960s or, more specifically, in 1972 by Andy MacElhone, son of Harry, at Harry's New York Bar in Paris, France. No one appears to claim creation of the built-in-the-glass/shaken version of the Blue Lagoon, but its simplicity has made it the popular choice.
