History

The ingredients and proportions differ significantly from the original equal parts Scotch whisky and dry vermouth, yielding a better cocktail resembling a Paisley Martini.

The Beadlestone is first documented in Jacob Abraham Grohusko's 1916 publication, Jack's Manual 4th Edition. It subsequently appeared, spelled as "Beadleston," in Albert Stevens Crockett's 1935 work, Old Waldorf Astoria Bar Book. BEADLESTONE COCKTAIL. 50% Scotch Whiskey 50% French Vermouth Shake. Additionally, there was a drink called Beadleston, named for a customer who supplied the bar with a significant amount of his brewed beer and after whom a second cocktail, the Beadleston No. 'li, was named. Alphabetically, there was also a Bunyan, spelled with an "a," evoking images of a parched pilgrim's journey toward perpetual refreshment.
