History
A rich, herbal liqueur with whisky notes, dried by fino sherry.
In 1955, Jacinto San Feliu and Ángel Jimenez opened their Balmoral bar in Madrid, which was considered one of the best in the city. This was their signature cocktail, originally made with 60ml (2oz) oloroso sherry, 1oz (30ml) Drambuie, and a dash of Angostura. Angel San José Marin preserved this cocktail for posterity by including it on the initial menu of Madrid's 1862 Dry Bar. No earlier reference to this sherry-based Balmoral had been found prior to January 2025, when it was encountered listed (with oloroso seco sherry) as the second cocktail in "The Classics" section of the 1862 Dry Bar's menu. Later that same evening, the Balmoral was revisited at Pictura in the Mandarin Oriental Ritz, this time made with fino sherry.
