History
A classic enhanced with apple. A dash of sugar syrup or more apple liqueur suits sweeter palates.
The Mojito is a classic Cuban cocktail, believed to have originated in the 16th century. While its exact origins are debated, one popular theory suggests it evolved from a drink called the "El Draque," named after Sir Francis Drake, the English privateer. This early version was reportedly made with aguardiente (a precursor to rum), lime, and mint. The modern Mojito, with its use of rum, is said to have gained popularity in Havana, Cuba, at a bar called La Bodeguita del Medio, which was a favorite haunt of Ernest Hemingway from 1932 to 1960.
