History
With a significant 15ml of bitters complementing 15ml of amaro (Italian for bitter) and a potent 45ml of high-proof rye whiskey, this cocktail might have been more aptly named Momentary Lapse of Reason, after the Pink Floyd track. Nevertheless, the inclusion of apricot brandy provides rounding and mellowing, making the cocktail surprisingly approachable, though still spirituous. To reduce the serve and alcohol content by a third, consider this alternative measure: Rinse - 5ml Red bitter liqueur 30ml (1oz) Rye whiskey 20ml (2/3oz) Apricot brandy 10ml (1/3oz) Amaro Averna 10ml (1/3oz) Angostura bitters 5ml (1/6oz) Straight bottled-in-bond applejack
Maks Pazuniak created this variation on a La Louisiane in 2011 at Cure in New Orleans, USA. Pazuniak also created the bitters-based Angostura Sour.
