History

Rum and rye are laced through this, with herbal and fudge-like notes and delicate spice.

Adapted from a cocktail created in 2008 by Ben Sandrof at Drink Bar in Fort Point, Boston, USA (which closed in January 2024), this drink may have been inspired by the bar's Fort Point cocktail. It is not named after Angostura 1919 Rum. The cocktail was initially made with Old Monk Rum, whose molasses notes inspired the name. The name references the Great Molasses Disaster of 15th January 1919, when a 10 million litre tank of molasses intended for distilling exploded, causing a flood that killed many. Coincidentally, Prohibition began at midnight on the following day.
